The National Education and Training Policy (2014, revised in 2023) is aimed at strengthening Tanzania's education and training system to enhance productivity and efficiency, ensuring equitable access to education and training opportunities, and continuously improving curricula to meet the nation’s developmental needs while enhancing competitiveness in science and technology. In line with these objectives, the Government continues to invest in education infrastructure, equipment, and human resource development. One such investment is the establishment of the Dodoma Technical College (DTC), strategically located in Nara, Dodoma Municipality. DTC is purposefully dedicated to providing quality skills development for students transitioning from secondary school skill streams (Mkondo wa Amali) and Vocational Training Centres. This focus was explicitly underscored by Prof Adolf Mkenda, MP, Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, during his address to the National Assembly on 7th November, 2024.
To ensure prompt operationalisation and the delivery of high-quality training, the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, on 10th October 2024, granted the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) the mandate to oversee DTC. Subsequently, the DIT Governing Council at its 110th meeting held on 31st October, 2024 approved the establishment of the "DTC - DIT Dodoma Campus”. As Tanzania's oldest technical training institution, DIT brings extensive expertise and a distinguished reputation in skills development, which it will extend to DTC. DTC is envisioned to deliver superior skills training through state-of-the-art infrastructure, modern equipment, and 21st century student-centred teaching methodologies. This initiative aligns with the Government's commitment to producing a skilled workforce to drive national socio-economic development.
